What: Solarize Seattle, a project of Northwest Seed, a Seattle nonprofit organization
Who: Jennifer Grove, 37, executive director of Northwest Seed
Mission: Unleash the solar market in Seattle.
Background: Northwest Seed was founded in 2001; it launched Solarize Seattle in June.
Southern roots: The idea for Solarize Seattle came from Portland. “I wish we could claim complete credit for it, but it is a blatant ripoff of Solarize Portland, a project that the city of Portland has been running for the past two years,” Grove said. “It’s been so successful in Portland. We thought, hey, if Portland can do it why can’t we?”
