Background: Northwest Seed was founded in 2001; it launched Solarize Seattle in June.

Southern roots: The idea for Solarize Seattle came from Portland. “I wish we could claim complete credit for it, but it is a blatant ripoff of Solarize Portland, a project that the city of Portland has been running for the past two years,” Grove said. “It’s been so successful in Portland. We thought, hey, if Portland can do it why can’t we?”
