Solarize WA Celebrates 500th solar PV installation on Mercer Island

(Mercer Island, WA)— On Friday, August 8, the first commercial installation at an Island business under the City’s Solarize campaign will be activated at the Mercer Island Auto Spa (2730 80th Avenue SE). More than a dozen residential installations are also under contract or already installed, and dozens more are expected by year’s end.

A public ribbon-cutting event for the 24-panel rooftop array is scheduled for 1:00-2:00pm, with Solarize program and City staff, solar installers, Puget Sound Energy representatives, elected officials, and business owner Suzanne Skone in attendance.

South Snohomish County is going solar and residents and business owners are invited to participate

Solarize South County is a citizen-led initiative to bring solar energy to homes and small businesses in several communities. A collaborative effort of Northwest Sustainable Energy for Economic Development (Northwest SEED), Snohomish County PUD, the City of Edmonds and a team of volunteers from Lynnwood, Edmonds and Woodway, Solarize South County is a time-limited initiative designed to help single family homeowners and small businesses purchase solar panels via a streamlined process and group discount. Registration is now open. The first workshop will be held July 16.

Solarize Seattle: Central/Southeast Now Open for Registration

Seattle, WA – Solar energy is currently powering hundreds of Seattle homes, and residents of Capitol Hill, the Central District, Beacon Hill, Rainier Valley, and other central and southeast Seattle neighborhoods are about to get a special opportunity to add their rooftops to our city’s growing solar array. Through a nonprofit-led program called Solarize Seattle, homes and small businesses can qualify for special pricing and take advantage of many incentives that make solar installations more affordable than ever.
Northwest Sustainable Energy for Economic Development (Northwest SEED) and Seattle City Light are working with several community groups to launch Solarize Seattle: Central/Southeast, a solar energy education and installation program that starts today and runs through October. The program will be co-led by a community coalition of local volunteers, which will spearhead neighborhood outreach. Supporting organizations include Sustainable Seattle, Sustainable Capitol Hill, and Sustainable Central District.

Earth Day Solar Tour Coming to Northwest Seattle – Sunday, April 21

Seattle, WA – In celebration of Earth Day, solar energy will be on display this weekend in three Northwest Seattle neighborhoods. The Earth Day Solar Tour will feature homeowners in the Solarize Seattle: Northwest campaign that recently installed rooftop solar systems. Nonprofit Northwest SEED and partners encourage tour participants to walk, bike, or bus to solar homes in their neighborhood. Each tour will take place Sunday, April 21.
More than 65 Northwest Seattle homeowners have opted to install solar systems since the Solarize Seattle: Northwest campaign launched in January. Many are eager to share their experience, and will be available to show tour participants their systems and answer questions.

First Solar Installation for Solarize Seattle Partnership is 700th in Seattle City Light Territory

SEATTLE – Northwest SEED, Seattle City Light and a coalition of neighborhood groups celebrated the first solar installation as part of the Solarize Seattle: Northwest campaign Thursday.
Through the nonprofit-led Solarize program, Northwest Seattle homeowners and businesses can qualify for special pricing and incentives that make solar more affordable than ever. Participants can access a group-buy discount and learn how solar works in Seattle, how it is installed, what tax and production incentives are available to bring the price down, and how low-interest financing can spread out the cost.
